Bianchi SASS Coaster Brake - The Village Bicycle
Share
This bike has a heck of a story. It was originally my dad’s @bianchibicycles SASS. This era of Bianchi was such a highlight for that company. They had a designer named Sky Yeager who, based on her body of work, championed the single speed bicycle. You can find 100% Chick Designed stickers on the bikes she made like the Bianchi San Jose SS Gravel Bikes, Pista track bikes, and a handful of 26” XC ATBs with clever names. This SASS = “Shiny Ass Single Speed” for instance.

So anyway, I went back to Illinois to visit my parents and pull this SASS that my dad had acquired. For whatever reason as I’m heading out to go hit the nice flowy, midwestern trails around their house he’s like “don’t break the frame.” and I’m like “dude it’s like blue trails how would we break the frame?” and head out. I’m cruising around hitting lines I hadn’t hit since I was a kid. Having a wee old time and start noticing there’s this bad creak happening from the front end. I pulled over and I’ll be damned if I hadn’t broken the frame completely in half at the downtube. Haha. He ended up having @limitlessfabrication booger it together and it’s basically a beach cruiser now. One day I’ll gusset it but for now it’s basically just a fancy bike to ride to Menottis.
Years later my parents were moving and @johnwoiwode made the fatal error of leaving this bike with @krondor and I. Karen put a bunch of nice @simworksusa parts on it, I put some carbon rimmed coaster brake hubs with fine @ultradynamico rubber on it, and just like that - my dads Bianchi had become a timeshare. Sorry bud. 🤡
So anyway - look at this thing in its new Timeshare form. A featherweight coaster brake ATB for a Thursday loaner / shoppe bike to take Karla on her steam-release mid day runs.
Happy Saturday yall.
